SWF&Co to plant 30 Flamboyant trees to mark its 30th Anniversary
MONDAY, August 22, 2022: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO –SWF&Co is marking its 30th anniversary in Public Relations by planting 30 flamboyant trees in north and south Trinidad and in Tobago.
“The trees we are planting today are young and hopeful,” said founder and CEO Sandra Welch-Farrell, “just as hopeful as we were when we first started out in business. We will be planting trees in selected communities where, we hope, they will bring pleasure and tranquility for many years to come.”
In Trinidad and Tobago, the flamboyant is called the “flame of the forest” or the “flame tree” because of its bright orange-red flowers. The name comes from the French word flamboyer – “to flame”. Its scientific name is Delonix regia.
In English, its name expresses the festival spirit of our society, for to be flamboyant is to be “conspicuously and confidently exuberant” and “brightly coloured and showy”. In the eastern Caribbean, it’s called the “shak-shak tree” because its dry seed pods make the same sound as the maracas used by parang bands. Flamboyant trees grow from 10 to 40 feet in an umbrella shape.
Welch-Farrell explained that, once well established, flamboyant trees do not need any maintenance. “Their stunning canopy can provide shelter for persons in need of a break from the tropical elements, while their fern- like foliage gives a feeling of peace and comfort,” she said. “When fully grown, the sturdy trunk reflects the confidence of SWF&CO...thirty years and counting!”
SWF&Co has handled some of the leading corporate accounts in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. The firm provides full PR services, including media relations, events management, crisis response, social media management, consumer marketing, and external and internal communications for organizations.
