Chevron Texaco Recognizes the Role of the Barbados Media
TUESDAY MARCH 6 2007 - BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS: Chevron Texaco, gold sponsor of this year's Texaco Barbados Rally Club Rally Championship 2007, invited the media to a Media Briefing at The Hilton on Tuesday March 6 2007.
Chevron recognizes that the company's long-term success in Barbados depends on strengthening its relationship with the local media, as well as contributing to economic development. Retail District Manager Chevron West Indies Ltd, Raymond Samuels, said "we see the mass media as a vital and integral component of our business operations."
The media were informed of the launch of Chevron's Regional Young Investors contest and a youth public speaking competition, aimed at tapping into the creativity of young people. Another initiative the company is currently spearheading is the establishment of a regional media body to develop ways to promote greater professional development in the practice of journalism in the region.
Corporate responsibility has long been a part of Chevron's values and operations. Chevron sponsors schools, hospitals, clinics, literary efforts and a wide range of children's programmes throughout the Caribbean.
Earlier this year, Chevron brought business and the community closer together when its STAR MART retailers donated 120 gift baskets to the elderly and underprivileged as part of their commitment to the development of the community.
The company is proud to be working alongside the Barbados Rally Club, in this year's Rally Championships to elevate the importance and status of motor sport in Barbados,
and is looking forward to being part of the Barbados Family as the country hosts rally enthusiasts from around the world.
