DIGICEL FOUNDATION SUPPORTS VULNERABLE WOMEN

TUESDAY MARCH 08, 2022: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Championing the safety of vulnerable women within our society is a movement which the Digicel Foundation has always held close to its heart. Mizpeh Halfway House, which is a halfway house for women in need, recently became one of the Foundation’s newest partners. The NGO received $100,000 toward refurbishment of their Halfway house.

The organisation has been providing its services to women and children for over 40 years. Their current building was constructed in 1996 and after 26 years, it is in urgent need of repairs. The Mizpeh Halfway House Founder, Reverend Pearl Noreiga responded to a ‘Call for Applications’ from the Digicel Foundation earlier this year and successfully secured one of the grants. The funding will be used to upgrade flooring, renovate the kitchen, bathroom block and the general living space at the shelter.

The name ‘Mizpeh’ comes from the Bible and means ‘a place for change’. Mizpeh House is a sanctuary for women in need as it provides short-term shelter, food, clothing, and developmental programmes.

Digicel Foundation- Operations Manager, Cindyann Currency visited the site and shared, “Our EPIC grants have always gone toward developing spaces.” She said, “We were so pleased to receive the application from Mizpeh.  Looking at the current landscape here in Trinidad and Tobago and the risk that many women and girls face, we are happy to invest in spaces that provide this kind of support.”

The Digicel Foundation is honoured to provide support to this transformational initiative that will indeed impact the lives of vulnerable women in Trinidad.
