PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – JUNE 12, 2024 –
International Game Technology (IGT), a global leader in gaming, announced today the installation of a computer lab at the Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre in Port of Spain, providing increased technology access to the children of Nelson Street. The lab, donated through IGT’s After School Advantage (ASA) programme, includes desktops loaded with software to offer engaging digital learning opportunities for children in the community, including migrant children, as well as access to Age of Learning’s ABCmouse Early Learning Academy, one of the most comprehensive digital learning programs for children ages 2-8.

(L-R) Shavindra Tewarie-Singh, IGT’s People & Transformation Regional Senior Manager for the Caribbean, and Dale Bartholomew, Credo Foundation for Justice’s Administrator, lend encouragement to a student using one of the new desktops at the Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre on Nelson Street, Port of Spain.

“IGT is pleased to continue supporting the important work of the Credo Foundation for Justice, which works tirelessly to provide a safe place of learning for the boys and girls of East Port of Spain,” said Shavindra Tewarie-Singh, IGT’s People & Transformation Regional Senior Manager for the Caribbean. “As part of IGT’s ongoing commitment to supporting its global communities, the ASA programme provides our local NGO partners with technology and STEM education opportunities to ensure that all of our young people will build the necessary skills to thrive in today’s digital society.”

Three of the four newly installed desktops at the Credo Drop-in an Outreach Centre on Nelson Street, Port of Spain, donated through the IGT After School Advantage community initiative.

In 2023, United States Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Candace Bond toured the Credo Boys’ Home, which led to a partnership between IGT and Age of Learning, the leading developer of engaging and effective learning resources that help children build a strong foundation for academic success and a lifelong love of learning. Today, the Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre is the first of IGT’s ASA partners to receive access to ABCmouse. Designed by education experts, ABCmouse is a research-validated curriculum with more than 10,000 learning activities encompassing literacy, math, science, social studies, art, music, and more.  Most importantly, ABCmouse gives parents and children the opportunity to navigate major areas of the programme in Spanish, and over 1,200 books, puzzles, and activities are also offered in Spanish, allowing the Credo Foundation to support the learning needs of Spanish-speaking children.

On May 14th, IGT employees, Vishal Benny, Information Systems Technician, and Shammah Quinton, Systems Administrator, volunteered their time to install desktops at the Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre on Nelson Street, Port of Spain.

“We are very grateful to have IGT’s continued support in addressing our technology needs at the Credo Foundation for Justice,” said Dale Bartholomew, Administrator of the Credo Foundation for Justice. “The equipment donated by IGT will allow us to introduce age-appropriate, educational software to boost engagement and foster collaborative learning with our students at the Drop-in Centre, who range from six to nine years old.”

The Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre, located on Nelson Street in Port of Spain, is a multifunctional space dedicated to the education of children during the school week. While the Credo Foundation’s goal is for all children to enter the formal education system, their development is supported by the Centre’s weekly structured plan of activities and learning opportunities. IGT’s ASA programme has previously equipped the Credo Foundation’s residential homes, Credo Sophia House and the Credo Developmental Centre for Socially Displaced Boys, with desktop computers, headsets, webcams and printers in 2021 and 2023 respectively.

Ready to learn! These students are fully engaged using interactive educational software at the Credo Drop-in and Outreach Centre.
