Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – March 27, 2025 – The Islamic Home for Children in Gasparillo has received a significant boost thanks to a generous donation from Marubeni Power International Inc. This donation of US$8,000, or just over TT$54,000, was made as part of Marubeni’s ongoing annual commitment to social welfare in Trinidad & Tobago, which funds initiatives that support education, child welfare, the elderly, and the environment.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Marubeni Executives toured the Home, previewing the planned upgrades. The Home’s Board of Directors indicated its goal of enhancing the Home’s self-sufficiency through several upcoming projects, including expanding agricultural activities and building a trade skills centre on the property.

“At Marubeni, we believe in investing in the future of the local communities, and that starts with the children,” said Mo Majeed, Chief Operating Officer, Marubeni Power International, Inc and Managing Director, Caribbean. “We’re especially honoured to play a part in supporting the excellent work being done at the Islamic Home for Children, during this holy month of Ramadan.  This home provides a haven, where the children who are most in need are offered protection and love in a safe and comfortable home.”

“The Marubeni donation has provided us with much needed funds, which will greatly assist in the maintenance of our facilities,” said Donna Ali, President of the Board of the Islamic Home for Children. “There are several specific building projects that we would like to accomplish soon. It is with the kindness and generosity of donations from organisations like Marubeni that the Islamic Home for Children has been able to achieve success thus far.”

In operation for 36 years, the Islamic Home for Children is a non-profit organisation that provides shelter, holistic care and protection for underprivileged, socially displaced and at-risk youth.  The Home’s facilities occupy approximately two acres of land with two separate buildings housing up to 20 boys and girls.
