MONDAY APRIL 25, 2022: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – The Marubeni Corporation and Energy Minister Stuart Young are both optimistic about Trinidad and Tobago’s future prospects in electricity generation.

 

According to Minister Young, “There are several projects under consideration for which have prospects for future collaboration between Marubeni and the Government. The end goal is to ensure that the people of T&T are assured of an efficient and affordable electricity supply.”

 

Marubeni holds a 39 percent equity interest in the Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago (PowerGen), which supplies 80 percent of T&T’s total electricity demand. 

 

Mo Majeed, chief operating officer (COO) of Marubeni Power International, revealed that the corporation aims to expand its renewable energy ratio to 20 percent by 2023. “We’re already pursuing green energy projects through investments in ammonia and hydrogen,” he said.

 

Majeed also expressed Marubeni’s desire to continue working with the Government and people of T&T and the wider Caribbean.
