NELSON STREET BOYS AND RAFFA HOUSE RECEIVE $20,000 IN CHRISTMAS GIFTS
SAT 23 DEC, 2023: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – On December 19th 2023, Nelson Street Boys Primary School and Raffa House Children’s Home both received significant, heartfelt Christmas gifts from Digicel employees. As part of the ‘Digi Christmas is D Bess’ staff initiative, five (5) Digicel teams received TT$10,000 from the Digicel Foundation to spread cheer and uplift a community of their choice during the Christmas season.
Shennell Noel, Martina Sanchez, Selene Hearn, Josiah Superville of Digicel’s Retention Team decided to put their grant toward enhancement efforts at the Nelson Street Boys Primary School.
“I’m a parent and my son attends this school so I was happy my team agreed for us to give back there. The principals and the students were very excited and happy about the donation. It felt good to be able to give back to improve the school life and efforts of the teachers at the school,” shared Shennelle Noel, Digicel Customer Retention Agent.
The team also donated a small freezer, fans and toner for the Primary School’s printer, as well as a tent, copy paper and fans for SS Nursery and Preschool.
The Digicel Internal Audit Team used their $10,000 grant to host a fun-filled Christmas party with treats and gift-giving for all of the children living at Raffa House Children’s Home. The children were thrilled to receive gifts of basketballs and hoops, netballs, footballs, bicycles and reading books. The team also prepared care packages and purchased a new washing machine for the home.
“The bicycles became an instant favourite! It was a heartening sight to witness the immediate impact these gifts had on the children’s spirits,” said Kevin Wilkinson, Digicel Group Internal Audit Manager, who planned the event along with Mawali Roberts, Patrina Patterson, Samantha Stafford, and Ashley Burrows from the Internal Audit Team. “It should be a reminder to all of us of the significance of compassion and kindness, especially to the less fortunate, and we feel incredibly honoured to have been allowed to make such a meaningful contribution to the lives of these deserving children.”
