TEN TO ONE RUM PAYS HOMAGE TO T&T INDEPENDENCE

The font used on Ten to One's award-winning rum was taken from a postage stamp commemorating Trinidad and Tobago’s independence in 1962.

MONDAY, 28 AUG 2023: Port of Spain – Within its distinctly modern look, the Ten to One Rum bottle gives a special celebratory nod to Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence. Every element of the bottle was intentionally designed to put Trinidad and Tobago's heritage and culture in the limelight, and this includes the Ten to One font which was taken from a postage stamp commemorating Trinidad and Tobago’s independence in 1962. Sixty-one years later, Ten to One marks the historic occasion by preserving this keepsake in its design.

“When designing the Ten to One bottle and packaging, one of our primary objectives was to create something that felt very contemporary and elevated in its own right, while still being grounded in authentic elements of Caribbean history, culture and heritage,” shared the Founder and CEO of Ten to One Marc Farrell. As a proud Trinidadian, Farrell merged his deep ties to Caribbean culture with an intimate knowledge of the U.S. consumer market to bring Ten to One to life.

The Ten to One logo is based on Trinidad’s national bird, the Scarlet Ibis. The red and white side labels on the bottle are riffs off of old shipping labels from the days of sugar exports, recognising rum’s birthplace on the sugar plantations. In Farrell’s words, “We’ve tried to bring elements of our heritage to life in a way that feels thoughtful and intentional but with our own contemporary style.”

A relatively new name in Caribbean spirits, Ten to One Rum has made a significant impact in a short time, capturing over 75 international spirits awards since entering the market. During Caribbean Heritage Month 2023, the brand collaborated with top Caribbean chefs in New York for creative food and rum pairings, as part of its mission to challenge current perceptions around rum and the occasions for which it might be considered the spirit of choice for today’s consumer. Already a favourite in New York’s restaurant and bar scene, Ten to One is known for its versatility and clean ingredients, with no added sugar, colouring or flavouring of any kind – unlike most other premium rums on the market today.

About Ten to One Rum

Launched in New York by Trinidadian Marc-Kwesi Farrell in 2019, Ten To One is a range of ultra-premium Caribbean rums designed to challenge expectations and change the way people taste, experience, and talk about rum. In 2021, Grammy award winning musician and entrepreneur, Ciara, joined as an investor, co-owner and director for the brand.

Ten To One endeavours to build a brand that is “elevated but not exclusive,” grounded in authentic elements of Caribbean culture and heritage. The brand also stands out by being 100% rum with no additives of any kind – no added sugar, colouring, or flavouring.

The current portfolio blends rums from all over the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, the Dominican Republic and Barbados, and currently includes several expressions: an extra proof white rum named Best White Rum by the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, an award-winning aged dark rum, an Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish rum, and a number of soldout, special edition bottles from their Reserve platform.
