DIGICEL FOUNDATION CELEBRATES THE BIG 10!

FRIDAY AUGUST 05, 2022: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO- “We want you to know that your support and trust has been invaluable to the execution of 549 projects impacting the 192,000 people in Trinidad and Tobago.” These were the celebratory words uttered by Digicel Foundation CEO, Penny Gomez in speaking with staff and Digicel customers on the milestone day on July 25th as the Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The commemorative day was filled with activities for staff including cake, party games and tokens. One key highlight of the day was the launch of the Red Army – staff volunteers who will be involved in community outreach activities supported by the Foundation. The Foundation was also keen on showing further appreciation for customers whose support aids in its outreach initiatives. The team gave 10% off the 10 day plan for customers on July 25.  All NEW Digicel Plus customers’ sign-ups between Jul25-Jul 31 get 10% off their base subscription for a month and HBO free for one month.

The Digicel Foundation began in 2012 and over the years has focused its efforts on improving opportunities for persons with special needs and enabling community based organisation to develop and transform community spaces. Some of its flag ship initiatives have been ‘Preparing You’, a disaster management and emergency evacuation programme for persons with special needs. Other initiatives such as therapy based education programme, Aquaponics at special needs schools and sport for development initiatives evidenced through its support to Special Olympics TT are some of the efforts which they have embarked on to bolster inclusion efforts in Trinidad and Tobago. In community development, the Foundation has made its mark through its annual grants programme, EPIC and to date there are 120 EPIC projects throughout T&T.  The Foundation’s Girls Power Tech event has continued to inspire young women to consider careers in ICT.

COVID restrictions allowed the Foundation to incorporate more digital technology in its community outreach efforts.  As such, the Foundation moved to used apps to reach beneficiaries. They also donated devices to those most vulnerable and facilitated internet and data packages so that youth, girls and persons with disabilities can access the digital world.
