PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – July 31, 2024 – International Game Technology (IGT), a global leader in gaming, has announced the installation of a second computer lab at Amica House for Girls. The lab, donated as part of IGT’s After School Advantage (ASA) programme, includes desktops loaded with software to offer engaging digital learning opportunities for the Home’s young residents aged three to sixteen.

“Amica House has been a valued partner to IGT’s ASA programme for over a decade, since our first donation of equipment to outfit their computer lab in 2013,” said Dexter Thomas, IGT General Manager, Trinidad and Tobago. “In addition to upgrading and maintaining the existing computer lab, IGT is pleased to install a second lab at the Home, increasing the number of devices available so all of the children have the opportunity to benefit from educational software.”

Diana Acosta, IGT’s People & Transformation Regional Director & People Partner LAC, has rapt attention from the girls at Amica House as she demonstrates how to use ABCmouse for online learning.

Through IGT’s partnership with the education technology provider Age of Learning, the new desktops will have access to ABCmouse Early Learning Academy, a comprehensive digital learning programme for children ages two to eight. Amica House is now the second of IGT’s local partners to benefit from the early education learning platform, which was designed by education experts and includes more than 10,000 learning activities encompassing literacy, math, science, social studies, art, music.

“With IGT’s donation, we were able to repurpose an underused space at Amica House into a fully-equipped computer lab, so we now have separate digital learning corners for our primary and secondary school girls,” said Marie-Louise Belmare Singh, Assistant to the Administrator at Amica House. “We are thankful to have IGT’s continued support in meeting the technology needs at Amica House.”

Deeply engrossed and enjoying digital learning with the help of Dexter Thomas, IGT’s General Manager Trinidad and Tobago, these Amica girls couldn’t be happier!

The ASA programme is IGT’s flagship community initiative, devoted to providing youth with access to technology while promoting STEM learning opportunities in communities where IGT operates. Between 2011 and 2024, IGT Trinidad and Tobago has made over 50 donations to its 18 ASA Centres, providing state-of-the-art computers, online technology, software, and employee volunteer hours to partner organisations.
