TUESDAY, 07TH MARCH 2023: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO:
The Credo Development Centre for Boys now has a fully equipped computer lab, courtesy of the IGT After School Advantage (ASA) programme. This new computer lab is the 18th IGT ASA Centre in Trinidad and Tobago, and the company’s 40th in the Caribbean.

IGT Country Manager Roger Bolai addresses guests at the launch of the 18th ASA Centre at the Credo Home for Boys.

At the launch on February 28, U.S. Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Candace A. Bond, and Deputy Chief of Mission, Shante J. Moore, were given a warm welcome by the community and a tour of the facility on Nelson Street, Port of Spain.

IGT’s ASA programme provides computer labs and equipment for disadvantaged children to use for homework and online learning during the critical after-school hours. Working with partner NGOs such as the Credo Foundation, IGT aims to satisfy the need for access to the digital world for children who would not otherwise have this opportunity.

The Credo Foundation for Justice is a non-profit NGO that offers socially displaced and at-risk children a safe home away from drugs, crime and gangs, and other abusive situations. It provides accommodation for up to 32 young people at two of the foundation’s residential development centres, Credo Development Centre for Boys, and Credo Sophia House for young girls at risk.

“IGT is pleased to reinforce its partnership and support of Credo Foundation, which has been an ASA partner since 2021 when we established the computer lab at the Foundation’s home for girls, Sophia House,” said IGT Country Manager, Roger Bolai.

He added, “IGT’s ASA programme aims to bridge the digital divide that exists amongst youth in Trinidad and Tobago by providing relevant technology to our ASA partners. This ensures that at-risk youth are fully integrated into our increasingly digitized society, have access to more opportunities for education and are better prepared for the world of work.”

Dale Bartholomew, administrator of the Credo Development Centre, expressed her deep appreciation for the donation. She said, “Besides offering accommodation for at-risk young people, the Credo Foundation for Justice ensures its residents receive counseling and facilitates developmental programs and life skills training to its residents. We currently have 14 boys in residence at the Credo Boys Home who will benefit tremendously from having easy access to computers and tools for online learning at home.”

IGT offers support to its ASA partners throughout the year with skills training and learning opportunities such as the annual IGT Coding and Robotics Camp, held exclusively for the beneficiaries of IGT’s ASA programme. The Credo Boys now have the chance to join IGT’s 2023 introductory level camp, while the girls at Sophia House advance to the intermediate level, having completed the beginner level last year.

In addition, IGT regularly makes donations of new computer equipment and software to keep all of the ASA partner’s computer labs updated, while IGT employees volunteer hours of their time to support activities at the ASA Centres.
