Motorola facilitates communications to support Turks and Caicos Disaster Relief
Donation reaches US$115,000 in equipment that is used to maintain vital communications
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands— October 21, 2008 — Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced a donation of approximately US$ 115,000 in communications equipment to meet critical communications needs and support the disaster relief efforts that are taking place after the direct hit by Hurricane Ike to these islands.
Motorola will be providing 40 XTS2500i, 40 spare batteries, 40 Carrying Cases and 40 Single Unit Battery Chargers to help the Turks and Caicos government to maintain vital communications in the midst of this situation. Commissioner of Police Edward Hall expressed: “On behalf of the good citizens of Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Government of Turks and Caicos, they appreciate the support Motorola has shown to them during these difficult times." Commissioner Hall went on to say that "l have been keenly aware of Motorola, its professionalism, its commitment to Public Safety in the Caribbean through his membership of the Association of Commissioned Caribbean Police (ACCP), and through this much needed donation, Motorola continues to show it support to the Police and Public Safety in the Caribbean.”
Bermuda Regiment will also be providing support to Turks and Caicos sending Police Officers and Motorola Two-Way Radios and one Emergency Motorola PDR3500 Portable Repeater. This equipment is compatible with Motorola's donation, which will facilitate the process of quick installation and end user training.
Since Hurricane Ike hit Turks and Caicos recently, Motorola has worked with government organizations to bring communications services to this area. With its advanced technologies and telecom network systems, Motorola has provided emergency communications services in support of the relief work- The equipment donated by Motorola is playing a key role in the relief efforts. Motorola will continue to work closely with Turks and Caicos government to restore communications soon in areas hit by the hurricane.
