Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – 11 March 2026 – Three schools, each serving a different and distinct community of young learners, recently received an unexpected helping hand through the Digicel Foundation’s Real Connections Campaign. The campaign awarded Digicel staff members grants of up to TT$10,000 to support community projects close to their hearts, and several of those staff-led projects shared a common purpose: giving children a better chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
Thanks to Louann Joseph, Renee Knights, Michael Curvan, Darcel Gooding and Cindy Beharry from Digicel’s Telesales team, The Cascade School for the Deaf in St. Ann’s received 25 smart watches equipped with SIM cards, giving parents and caregivers a reliable way to stay connected with their children and track their safety throughout the day.
This simple gesture has given profound reassurance to families navigating the unique challenges of raising a child with a hearing impairment, supporting well‑being and encouraging the use of safety‑focused technology.
In San Fernando, the K.W.A.I.S. Learning & Support Centre, a remedial school dedicated to children with special learning and developmental needs, received a printer and Smart TV. The donation was driven by Digicel staff member Denicia Knutt-Gibson, who chose KWAIS with deep personal conviction.
“As a working mom, one of our greatest fears is whether our children are truly safe and cared for with patience, and KWAIS provides that nurturing environment where children with different needs are empowered to reach their full potential. The school is led by passionate and committed teachers who genuinely invest in each child’s developmental journey,” she shared.
For Digicel staff member Lechon Joseph, the decision to support The Little Explorers Daycare and Preschool by donating a new laptop and new furniture was similarly close to home. “I’m truly grateful that Digicel Foundation gave us the opportunity to help the school get what they needed to continue nurturing, teaching, and guiding these children in a more modern and supportive space,” Joseph said.
The spirit of giving also extended beyond the classroom. Josette Reece and Moesha Walker of the Digicel Customer Experience Team partnered with the Mission Accomplished Volunteer Organisation (M.A.V.O) and Kairo’s Foundation to distribute 100 food hampers to families in El Socorro, Barataria, San Juan, Diego Martin, and surrounding communities. Each hamper was thoughtfully packed with groceries, household staples, and toiletries tailored to the size of the family receiving it.
“Being a part of this project was deeply fulfilling and meaningful. It was especially rewarding to involve the youths in the distribution process, allowing them to learn firsthand the value of putting others before self,” said Walker.
Through the Real Connections Campaign, the Digicel Foundation provided TT$60K in funding to Digicel staff teams to implement these passion projects. By placing resources in the hands of staff and empowering them to direct support where they see it needed most, the Digicel Foundation turns everyday compassion into lasting community impact.
